Looking for advice

Looking for help on where to go for help.

I have a young adult dependant who has mental health issues, being diagnosed with OCD and on the autism spectrum.

He is now showing violent traits and threatening to harm other family members. Melts down on most days over the smallest things, and outbursts usually last for hours.

We have seen several sychologists etc with no improvement shown.

Last night he broke things and physically asulted [edited by moderator] me several times.

Looking to find out what we can do for the sake of the remainder of the family surviving.

He has a job for three days a week, which took him a long time to find and i dont want to threaten that with having him committed somewhere, but we can't keep going on like this, so not sure what to do next.

Re: Looking for advice

Hey @Semaphore, thank you for reaching out to the community!

Sounds like you are going through a lot with the young person in your life and I is really brave and courageous of you to share your experiences with your peers. It is also heartwarming to hear that you care so much for them and are wanting to get them some support.

There are supports that are specific for young people and Kids Helpline is a good place to start. They both support young people from 5 years to 25 years old. Reach Out is another great place too and they support young people from 16 years to 25 years old.

I also want to acknowldge that you mentioned that the young person assaulted you and that it is never ok, no matter what someone is going though to physically assault someone else. I encourage you to reach out to 1800 RESPECT who are specialist in family and domestic violence.

I can be challenging caring for another person and we can benefit from having our own support too. I encourage you to contact Carer Gateway to talk about how they can support you.

Thanks again for reaching out and sharing your experiences with the community!

Take care
