My family also does birthday dinner out since I was a teen and my father's job then was less needing overseas phone call time zones. Because of later night working, as a child we celebrated birthdays before school - so presents and cake for breakfast lol. So I still have birthday cake for breakfast on my birthday as an adult now 😁. I did not realise this was not "normal" for everyone on their birthday until I was in high school!
